Water Testing & Chemical Balancing

Clean water is only half the story. Balanced water keeps your pool safe, smooth-running, and easier to maintain.

What This Covers

Water testing and chemical balancing isn’t just about dumping in some chlorine. It’s about making sure every part of your water chemistry stays within a safe and effective range, so your pool doesn’t turn green, stain, or start eating away at your surfaces and equipment.

Each visit includes testing and adjusting for:

  • Chlorine or sanitizer level

  • pH and total alkalinity

  • Calcium hardness (important for plaster and concrete pools)

  • Stabilizer (CYA) levels

  • Salt levels (for saltwater pools)

  • Phosphates, if needed

We’ve been testing and maintaining pool water across DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland for over 20 years, so we’ve seen it all, from high-end salt systems to older setups with unpredictable swings.

Why It’s Worth Keeping in Check

When your water is out of balance, even slightly, it starts to show — cloudy water, itchy eyes, damaged liners, scale buildup, corroded heaters. Some issues creep in slowly. Others happen overnight.

Keeping the chemistry stable helps prevent:

  • Algae blooms

  • Surface staining

  • Filter clogs

  • Rough plaster or scaling

  • Equipment corrosion

Fun fact: Most of the costly pool issues we see start with bad chemistry.

How Often Should Water Be Tested?

We recommend testing your water weekly during swim season, especially for pools used daily, after heavy rain, or if you’ve just added fresh water.

For saltwater systems, keeping salt and stabilizer in check is just as important as chlorine.

We bring pro-grade testing kits and not test strips so you get accurate results.

FAQ

Can I do this myself with a test kit?
You can — but store-bought kits aren’t always accurate, and they don’t measure everything. If you're unsure what to add or how much, it's better to have us test it properly.

What happens if my levels are way off?
We’ll rebalance the water and explain what caused the issue — whether it’s heavy rain, old water, or a system issue.

Do you work with saltwater pools?
Yes. We test and maintain both traditional chlorine and saltwater systems.

Can imbalanced water damage equipment?
Yes. Low pH or high calcium can wear down heaters, pumps, and surfaces. Keeping levels in check protects everything.

How long does balancing take?
Most visits are done within 30 minutes, depending on pool size and how far off the water is.
